Tarheel Tour member Andy Bare finished a memorable week in Greensboro with his first top-20 finish on the PGA Tour. Bare recovered from a shaky start Sunday, birdying five of his final six holes to shoot a 2-under par 70, finishing the Wyndham Championship at 14-under par. The round left him tied for 20th and earned the UNC-Greensboro alumnus just over $52,000. It was Bare’s first made cut on the PGA Tour in only his second start. He also participated in the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. |

Bare is currently third on the Tarheel Tour Money list and was able to push his total earnings for 2007 over the $100,000 mark with his finish, but just as important is the confidence he gained this week, “I’ve had a lot of people say this is where I belong and where I should be playing. It probably hasn’t sunk in yet, but I think I proved to myself that I can play with these guys, definitely.” Bare will take this week off to get ready for the Northstone Open, in Huntersville, NC, August 29-31. |
