Tarheel Tour Makes Maiden Voyage to The Manor” - April 7, 2008

Farmville, VA- The Charlotte, NC based Tarheel Tour will visit the state of Virginia for the first time in 2008 as the tour ventures north to Farmville for The Manor Classic. The Manor Resort, in beautiful Prince Edward County, will be the host of the inaugural Tarheel Tour Manor Classic on April 9-11.

The Manor Resort, still in its infancy (it opened for play in June 2006), received rave reviews from Golf Digest in early 2007 as it was voted #4 in the United States on the list of “Best New Public Courses under $75.” Tarheel Tour President David Siegel, among others, is excited about the new site. “Last year we contested our first event in Virginia at Spring Creek Golf Club and it was a great success so we decided to add two new events in the state in 2008. The Manor is one of the top new golf courses in the country and is likely to become a favorite among the players.”

The Manor Classic will be a 54-hole stroke play event with a 36-hole cut following completion of the second round. The top 35 percent of the field will qualify for the final round and compete for the $108,000 purse with a first place check of $17,500. The field of roughly 132 players will include TPGG Classic champion Paul Butler, and 2007 Cabarrus Classic Champion Will McGirt. Butler, a Gaffney, SC native is coming off a surprising come from behind victory at the TPGG Classic, where he closed with a pair of 67’s, matching the low round of the tournament each day. McGirt, one of the most consistent players in Tarheel Tour history, has started the season in excellent form, with third and fourth place finishes at the Rivertowne Open and TPGG Classic respectively.

Also in the field is TPGG Classic co-runner-up Fernando Mechereffe and Athens, Georgia native Jay McLuen. McLuen, the 2007 Walnut Creek Classic Champion, shared 4th place last week with McGirt and Spartanburg, SC native Stephen Poole. Poole, a former champion on the Tarheel Tour, is also in the field.

The Manor Classic is the 3rd of 20 events in 2008 on the Tarheel Tour Schedule, and the first of three events in Virginia. The tour will return to the Old Dominion State in June for the 2nd annual Spring Creek Classic as well as the Inaugural Pete Dye Classic at Virginia Tech. The first round of The Manor Classic will begin at 8:00 a.m on April 9. As always, the event is open to the public and free of charge.
