Gordonsville, VA- A pair of two-time winners on the Tarheel Tour in 2008 took advantage of a light breeze during the morning to claim the lead after the first round of the Tarheel Tour’s Spring Creek Classic. Jacksonville, FL resident Andy Bare and 2008 leading money winner David Robinson both fired 7-under-par 65 to hold a one stroke lead over three players.

Bare, who is coming off a win last week at the Warrior Classic in China Grove, NC, offset one bogey with eight birdies in his first fourteen holes. A possible course record of 63 was within his sights, but he only managed to make pars on his final four holes to finish with an impressive 65. Robinson, who managed to close with a 65 last week in the final round at Warrior, made six birdies and an eagle to offset one bogey in his round of 65. Both players appear to be at the top of their games as they each are gunning for their third win of the season.

A trio of players fired 6-under-par 66 in the morning including former ACC Individual Champion Hank Kim. The former N.C. State standout birdied his final four holes as he finished on the front nine to grab a share of third place. Two-time Tarheel Tour winner Scott Brown and Colgate alum Jesse Smith each had bogey-free rounds to join Kim in a share of third. All three players are in search of their first win on the Tarheel Tour in 2008.

Fort Payne, AL native Scott Weatherly recorded the best round of the afternoon wave with a 5-under-par 67, which included seven birdies. The Manor Classic runner-up has made seven of seven cuts while recording five top-ten finishes in 2008. Blackstone, VA native and former PGA Tour player Cameron Yancey joined Frank Adams III, a multiple winner on the Tarheel Tour, and former Wake Forest standout Chad Wilfong in carding 4-under-par 68 to stay within reach of the leaders.

The second round of the Tarheel Tour’s Spring Creek Classic begins on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. off of the first and tenth tees. After the close of Thursday’s round the field will be cut to the low 53-players plus ties, with the survivors battling it out for the $20,000 first place check and a total purse of $124,500. The public is welcome to come out and watch all of the action at Spring Creek Golf Club or follow on the web at www.tarheeltour.com.
