Gordonsville, VA- Last week’s Warrior Classic champion and Jacksonville, FL resident Andy Bare will look to make it two victories in a row when he tees it up this week in the Tarheel Tour’s second annual Spring Creek Classic in Gordonsville, VA. The former UNC-Greensboro standout also won the Sapona Open earlier this year in a playoff over Gregg Jones. Bare and Sandersville, GA native David Robinson have each collected two victories this season and both had good first time visits last year to Spring Creek. Bare fired a pair of 68’s and a 69 to finish second and Robinson shot 6-under-par for the week to tie for fifth. If either can claim the title at Spring Creek he will become the first three time winner on the Tarheel Tour in 2008.

A full field of 156 players is expected to take on the Par 72 Spring Creek Golf Club which measures over 7,200 yards and is home to some of the fastest greens all season on tour. A pair of challengers looking for their first win this year are South Carolina natives Tommy Biershenk and Scott Brown. Biershenk’s play has improved in the late spring as he has recorded top five finishes in three of his last four starts including a third place showing last week at the Warrior Classic. Two time winner last year Scott Brown has also started to come on strong with top ten finishes in his last three starts.

Other former winners in the field include William McGirt, Jeff Curl, Alex Hamilton, and Shaun Norris. Norris is coming off a second place finish last week at Warrior, which is his best finish on tour since his win last summer in the Southern Open.

The full field of 156 players will tee it up at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday for the first round of the Spring Creek Classic with the second round beginning at the same time on Thursday. The top 35% will make the 36-hole cut and compete Friday for the $127,500 purse with a winner’s share of $20,000.

Spring Creek Golf Club is one of the most beautiful golf courses in all of Virginia and was credited with the honor of being one of the “Best new golf course under $75” in the country. The public facility opened in the spring of 2006 and received rave reviews from the players in the tour’s inaugural visit last summer. In accordance with all Tarheel Tour events, the Spring Creek Classic is free of charge and open to the public.
