Moore Takes One-Shot Lead Into Final Round
Amid Crowded Leaderboard

111

Lexington, NC- Stuart Moore followed up a first-round 66 with a second-round 67 and holds a tenuous one-shot lead over three players heading into the final round of the Tarheel Tour’s Sapona Open.

Moore’s round featured eight birdies, including four in his last five holes, to go with four bogeys on his way to the second-round lead at 9-under 133 on the par-71 Ellis Maples layout. The former Auburn University standout’s second round was in stark contrast to his opening round in which he made five birdies and no bogeys. Moore is looking for his first Tarheel Tour title in his 16th event. The young lefthander’s best finish came at the 2007 Sapona Open where he finished tied for fourth. Despite his past success at Sapona Country Club, it will not be easy for Moore to seal the deal as 18 players including eight former Tarheel Tour champions are within four shots of the lead.

Three players sit only one shot behind Moore including 2007 Olde Sycamore Open winner D.J. Fiese. The Roswell, GA native has made 11 birdies over the first two days on his way to back-to-back rounds of 67. The affable Fiese has yet to make a bogey on the front nine this week.

Kevin Blake Andy Bare and D.J. Frease

Andy Bare and Blake Adams sit tied with Fiese heading into Friday’s final round after each carded a second-round 65, tying for the low round of the day. Bare, who counts a top-20 finish at the PGA Tour’s 2007 Wyndham Championship among his many accomplishments, is seeking his second Tarheel Tour victory in the last three seasons. Adams, like Fiese, makes his home in Roswell, GA and is looking to rebound from a slow start to the season with his first Tarheel Tour victory after missing the cut in each of his two starts. The cut fell at one-under 141, leaving 47 players to battle it out for the first-place prize of $17,500 and a total purse of $110,565. The final round will begin at 8:00 AM with the final group slated to tee it up at 9:10. As always the public is welcome to come out and watch the future stars of the PGA Tour free of charge.
