Huntersville, NC- Reigning Rivertowne Open Champion David Robinson and Cabarrus Classic runner-up Matt Mincer each matched opening round 68’s with 6-under-par 66’s to share the lead after the second round of the Tarheel Tour’s Northstone Open. Robinson took the lead after the morning by offsetting a lone bogey with two eagles and three birdies to share the low round of the morning wave withTim Cantwell and Mark Evans. Robinson, who hails from Sandersville, GA, has made a record 28 consecutive cuts on the Tarheel Tour and is currently third on the 2008 money list with $29,250 in earnings.

A win tomorrow would make him the first player this season to win twice on the Tarheel Tour. A win would also vault him into first place on the money list. Mincer, a former standout at nearby UNC-Charlotte, matched Robinson’s round of 66 in the afternoon. Mincer’s round featured birdies on three of his final four holes to grab a share of the lead at 10-under-par. The Lenoir City, TN native had his best finish of the season last week with a second place showing at the Cabarrus Classic.
The cut fell at even par for 36-holes with 58 players surviving to play Friday’s final round. The eventual winner of the Northstone Open will make $18,500 for his efforts. The total purse this week will be $118,750.The final round of the Northstone Open begins on Friday at 7:30 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees. As always, the event is free and open to the public.
