Rochester, NY- Former Tarheel Tour Player and Charlotte, NC resident Brendon de Jonge claimed his first career Nationwide Tour victory last week in the Xerox Classic at Irondequoit Country Club in Rochester, NY. The former Virginia Tech standout who played earlier this season at the Tarheel Tour’s Rivertowne Open pieced together rounds of 67, 64, 67 and 69 on the difficult Par 70 layout to claim a four stroke victory over Nationwide Tour Money Leader Jarrod Lyle.

With the win, de Jonge earned $108,000 and jumped to second on the current money list, just $42,000 behind Lyle. More importantly, de Jonge locked up his return trip to the PGA Tour in 2009. The native of Zimbabwe played the PGA Tour full time in 2007, but lost his exempt status after finishing 155th on the money list.

Another player making a big move last week in Rochester was 2007 Stonebridge Classic Champion Jonathan Fricke. The Covington, GA native shot rounds of 69, 69, 63, and 71 to finish in a tie for third at 8-under-par and earn $31,200 for his efforts. The third place finish was easily Fricke’s best career finish on the Nationwide Tour and it propelled him from 137th on the money list up to 87th, giving him a legitimate chance to move into the top 60 by season’s end to retain his fully exempt status on the Nationwide Tour.
