Indian Trail, NC- The Charlotte, NC based EGOLF Tarheel Tour returns to action this week after a month-long break for the Charlotte National Open at Charlotte National Golf Club in nearby Indian Trail, NC. This will mark the seventh consecutive year that the Tarheel Tour will host an event at Charlotte National, and this year the event will kick off the S & K Fall Finale Series after the River Run Classic was cancelled due to torrential rain. Past champions of the event include former Nationwide Tour winners David Mathis and Kyle Reifers, as well as Tarheel Tour all time leading money winner Matt Cannon, who won the inaugural event in 2002, and is in the field again this season.

This year’s version of the Tarheel Tour’s Charlotte National Open will host a field of 144 players with an increased purse of $130,000 thanks to the tour partnership with EGOLF. This event is the first of the final four events of the year with guaranteed increased purses.

Twenty-six of the top thirty money winners on the Tarheel Tour are in the field this week including Ellington, CT native Jeff Curl. Curl is 14th on the current money list in just seven events. He has a tie for second, a tie for third and a solo fourth place finish to his credit so far this season and has earned $29,328. Since tying for second in the Southern Open in July, Curl has played in four consecutive Nationwide Tour events, making the cut in all four and recording two top twenty finishes. For the year, Curl has made six cuts in seven events on the Nationwide Tour, and is 133rd on the money list with $28,200.

The top four money leaders this season, David Robinson, Ted Brown, Andy Bare and Kevin Kisner are all in the field and will be looking to continue their solid play as the season comes to a close and the impending PGA Tour Qualifying School gets closer. Between them, the quartet has nine victories in 2008.

Four other players who are also in the top ten on the money list will be looking to validate their great play this season with their first victory of the 2008 campaign. 2007 Cabarrus Classic Champion Will McGirt and former Nationwide Tour member and Manor Classic runner-up Scott Weatherly will join three time runner-up Joel Hendry and Spring Creek Classic runner-up Cory Kaufman as players who appear ready to win for the first time in 2008. Jay McLuen, Michael Sims and Jonathan Moore are just a trio of 2008 winners who are also in the field this week at Charlotte National.

A full field of 144 competitors will tee it up Wednesday morning for the EGOLF Tarheel Tour Charlotte National Open at Charlotte National Golf Club in Indian Trail, NC. The $130,000 purse will offer a winner’s share of $22,000 as well as EGOLF points and S & K Fall Finale Series Points. The event will begin on Wednesday, September 24, with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees. The same format will follow for the second round on Thursday, September 25. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 35% and ties, with those surviving playing the third and final round on Friday. The EGOLF Tarheel Tour encourages everyone to come out to Charlotte National to watch the final stretch of the 2008 season begin. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
