Bermuda Run, NC- Scott Brown of North Augusta, SC is defending his 2007 Bermuda Run Title as he and 125 other competitors tee it up on Wednesday at the Tarheel Tour’s Bermuda Run Open at Bermuda Run Country Club. Brown shot rounds of 67-65-67 to hold off a late charge by Jacksonville, FL resident Andy Bare who fired a final round 9-under-par 63 but still came up one shot short. The win was Brown’s first of two wins in 2007, as he would also win the season ending match play championship in November. The entire field of 126 players will play the Par-70 West Course at Bermuda Run on Wednesday and the Par-72 Main Course on Thursday. Those who survive the 36-hole cut will play the Main Course on Friday and compete for the title and a share of the estimated $102,800 purse. The winner will receive $16,500 for his efforts.
The top eight money leaders on the 2008 Money list are all in the field including leading money winner David Robinson. The Sandersville, GA native has won twice on tour in 2008 and has earned $49,875 to date. Another favorite that is in the field is Aiken, SC native Kevin Kisner. The 2007 Match Play Champion has played four events this year on the Tarheel Tour and has three top-4 finishes to his credit. The former University of Georgia All-American is currently sixth on the money list with $28,433 in earnings.
The Main Course at Bermuda Run is a 7,082 yard par-72 Ellis Maples design with large sloping greens and narrow fairways. Among its credentials, the Main course played host to the 1986 NCAA Division I Championship.
The first round of the Bermuda Run Open will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees on Wednesday May 28, at the West course. As is the case with all Tarheel Tour events, the Bermuda Run Open is open to the public and free of charge.
